PREVENT
WHAT IS THE PREVENT STRATEGY?
Prevent is a government strategy designed to safeguard adults or children at risk of being radicalised; averting them from becoming terrorists or supporting extremist causes.
Prevent is a multi-agency response, offering support to individuals and dealing with all forms of extremism including: Right Wing and Islamist extremists.
HOW DOES PREVENT STRATEGY APPLY IN SCHOOL?
Following Prevent Duty becoming Law in Schools in 2015, All schools and registered childcare providers are required to “have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.” Children therefore have a right to be safeguarded from radicalisation, and extremist and violent views, in the same way they are protected from drugs, sexual exploitation, gang culture, county lines etc.
Our curriculum encompasses many ways to support children, to ensure they are aware of and can contribute to the Prevent Strategy.
For Example:
Teaching and embracing other cultures, faiths and religions thus promoting diversity in school and society.
Promote values through understanding of the world we live in.
Upholding fundamental BRITISH VALUES: Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
Positively promoting the spiritual, moral and cultural development of all pupils.
Developing critical thinking skills and a strong positive self-identity.
Challenging any prejudice and/or racist comments.
Use of filters on the internet to restrict access to extremist and terrorist information.
Rigorous recruitment checks and vetting of any visitors to school.
