Below are the financial details relating to our use of Pupil Premium and our PE and Sports Funding.
View our Academy's details on the Gov.uk Schools Financial Benchmarking website.
PUPIL PREMIUM
The Pupil Premium is additional funding allocated to schools in order to target and support: children from low income families, children in Looked after Care and those children of Forces personnel.
The Government initiative began in April 2011 to support pupils in schools who were eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) from Reception through to Year 11, as research suggested this group of children underperformed when compared to their Non FSM peers.
Pupil Premium funding is available to all children who have been in receipt of FSM within the last 6 years (both mainstream and non-mainstream settings) and those children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months.
Schools have the freedom to spend the Pupil Premium money however they deem it appropriate, however spending is intended to raise the attainment of vulnerable pupils and ‘narrow the gap’ between them and those pupils not in receipt of the funding. Annual performance tables indicate the achievement of pupils funded by pupil premium compared with their peers.
Schools have been instructed by the Government to publish online how they have utilised the PP funding so as to inform parents of the attainment made by pupils the initiative addresses.

PE AND SPORTS PREMIUM
Redby Primary Academy aims to develop an improved, sustainable PE Curriculum. This will lead to improved levels of performance, skill development and enjoyment for pupils. A core set of sports have been identified which will be delivered across all year groups. The aim is to develop identifiable exit routes which will lead to increased sports opportunities for pupils. Staff will be supported to develop their own levels of PE expertise and confidence to ensure the future sustainability of the programme. Our PE Lead is Mr P Kitching.
Children at Redby will learn and participate in the following sports:
Year 1: Basic skills, Dance, Gymnastics, Cricket, Tennis, Tag Rugby
Year 2: Cricket, Dance, Gymnastics, Tennis, Athletics, Tag Rugby
Year 3: Cricket, Dance, Gymnastics, Tennis, Tag Rugby, Athletics
Year 4: Tag Rugby, Dance, Swimming, Cricket, Athletics
Year 5: Swimming, Gymnastics, Tennis, Tag Rugby, Athletics
Year 6: Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, Cricket.
WHAT IS THE SPORTS PREMIUM?
The Government provides additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Since September 2013, schools have been held to account over how they spend their additional funding. Ofsted have strengthened the coverage of PE and sport within the Inspectors Handbook so that both schools and inspectors know how sport and PE will be assessed. Schools are also required to include details of their provision of PE and sport on their website.
HOW ARE WE USING THE FUNDING TO BENEFIT OUR CHILDREN?
At Redby Academy we have allocated the funding in a number of ways:
Hiring qualified sports coaches to provide specialist teaching for children across the year groups
Providing training to school staff through teaching alongside qualified sports coaches
Buying new resources to enable a wider variety of sports and activities to be delivered in PE lessons
Buying into specialised support to enable teachers to plan PE lessons more effectively
Purchasing resources and providing support to promote and encourage active play and lunch times
Professional development opportunities for the PE leader
Providing cover to release staff for professional development in PE and sport
Continuing to run sports activities in school and increasing pupils’ participation in the competitive sport, both in school and against other schools
Developing young sports leaders through the Play Leaders Programme at lunchtime
Creating and maintaining an intra-school sporting competition
Investing in Physical Development schemes for the EYFS.
