Esh building company have been working in partnership with Northumbrian Water to upgrade the sewer network in this area. they are investing £8 million to help make Sunderland a great place to live, work and visit. The one-year scheme, which began in September 2016, will improve the performance and resilience of our sewer network in the Roker, Seaburn, St Peter’s areas, as well as Cleadon in South Tyneside. Work will involve reducing the amount of surface water (rainfall from roofs and roads) that enters the sewer network which will increase its capacity – this is particularly important in times of rainfall. As a result, the amount of times that waste water is released into the sea at Whitburn steel pumping station, and into the River Wear, near St Peter’s Church, will be reduced.
